Environmental centres also prepare special programmes targeted at a specific part of the local traditional
gastronomy, history, traditional way of life. In recent years, some environmental centres hosted courses
on growing and processing of olives and olive oil (accompanied by the production of herbal oil), life of shep-
herds (introduction to the work of shepherds and production of traditional dairy products with demonstrati-
ons), or Minoan cuisine (learning and cooking of Minoan meals and drinks from local ingredients according
to old recipes).
Conclusion
As mentioned at the very beginning hereof, the „Environmental Tourism – Alternative Ways“ project
was concerned especially with environmental education and its integration into all levels of the education
system. The project was primarily aimed at a mutual exchange of knowledge and experience in the afore-
mentioned field. This aim was gradually implemented during the individual international meetings, which
were very beneficial for participants from both partner regions. Both parties exchanged a lot of valuable
information during the meetings, concerning environmental education and training; moreover, they had
the opportunity to compare the education systems of both countries and discuss current issues in education.
The project thus fulfilled its main purpose and thanks to a close partnership, it sowed the seeds for the dis-
cussion of a possible future cooperation in education and training.
